Father David Garcia

Father David Garcia has dedicated himself to serving the Hispanic community in the U.S. as well as working to preserve its cultural heritage. His work in service to others extends overseas. As senior advisor for Clergy Outreach for Catholic Relief Services, he leads the agency's efforts to develop and strengthen relationships with clergy in the United States and promote solidarity with the poor and vulnerable in the developing world. He also focuses on outreach to Latino clergy and supports Catholic Relief Services' Global Fellows program, a grassroots speaking initiative that draws on the talents of active and retired Catholic priests to spread the message about Catholic Relief Services' work.

Fr. Garcia is also director of the Old Spanish Missions of San Antonio and was rector of San Fernando Cathedral from 1995 - 2008. He was responsible for the actual restoration of the Old Spanish Missions, which are so important to the Hispanic heritage of the United States. Fr. Garcia restored the four missions and the cathedral, all of which date to the 1700's and are the largest concentration of Spanish colonial structures in any city of the US. He has served the Archdiocese of San Antonio in a number of ways, including secretary to the Archbishop, director of administrative services, rector of Assumption Seminary and vocation director. He is currently pastoring his fourth parish in 39 years of priestly ministry.
