Jesus “Chuy” Medrano

As a founder of CoCal Landscape, one of the most successful landscape companies in the country, Jesus "Chuy" Medrano has not only given members of his community the chance to learn, grow and be successful, but he has also taught them the importance of giving back and treating others with dignity and respect. CoCal has contributed to communities within the U.S. borders and beyond, donating labor and material for the construction of the courtyard at the Denver Health Medical Center, donating items to local church fundraisers, directly supporting the Denver area and Mexican athletic programs, and donating money, clothing, computers and school supplies to children in an orphanage of Chuy's native Chihuahua, Mexico.

By becoming one of the founding members and the first president of the National Hispanic Landscape Alliance (NHLA), an organization focused on empowering more than 500,000 Hispanic landscape workers in the US, he has mobilized them and given them a seat at the table. He believes, wholeheartedly, that Hispanics can, and do, make excellent foremen, field supervisors, account managers and, given the right training and encouragement, branch managers or senior level executives. However, he insists that company owners must be committed to the process of building their workers' skills, starting with identifying potential leaders.
